Smoking

Smoking has many affects on oral health. Increased plaque, tartar and staining can occur. Furring of the tongue (increasing bad breath) reduced blood flow to the gums which is an indicator of the same affect on the heart tissue. Bone levels around the tooth may recede, tooth movement may occur and result in premature tooth loss.

Gum Disease

Inflammation of the gum can lead to bleeding and swelling of the gums. Chronic inflammation of the gum can lead to recession of the bone which can lead to tooth mobility and premature tooth loss.

Flossing

Plaque can accumulate between the teeth. If not removed this can lead to gum disease or tooth decay. It is important you clean in between your teeth at least once a day, every night before you brush your teeth at night. Either with floss or interdental brushes.

Interdental Brushes

The TePe interdental brush is used to clean in between teeth. A choice of 8 colour-coded sizes is available to help clean different sized spaces. Turning the brush on insertion will help access. Used daily, it removes plaque and food debris where your usual brush cannot reach. For spaces at the back of the mouth, bend the brush in a slight curve but never at right angles this will help you access the more difficult-to-reach areas.
